Porsche 911 Targa

It seems a month hardly goes by without Porsche announcing yet another new derivative of its updated 911 range. This week we received details and the first pictures of a new Targa model.

Taking the wider body of the - equally new - 911 Carrera 4 variant as its basis, the Targa adds the distinctive sliding glass roof that gives it its name, as well as a strip of aluminium outlining the glasshouse. At the rear, large new Targa script adorns the engine cover, while the Carrera 4's characteristic red reflective strip joining the rear lights is also used.

For now at least, the Targa models will only be available with the Carrera 4's new all-wheel drive hardware, though Porsche prefers to call it PTM: Porsche Traction Management. Both Targa 4 and Targa 4S versions will be available, with the entry-level model packing 341bhp from its 3.6-litre flat-six. The S model utilises a 3.8-litre version of the same engine, with power upped to 380bhp enabling a top speed of 184mph.



The Targa roof itself comprises two large glass panels, one of which slides under the other to open the cabin to the elements in just seven seconds. Along with the open-air feel of the car, the glass roof gives the 911 a unique appearance. Buyers worried about a greenhouse effect on a hot day will be happy to hear that the glass in the roof and tailgate is made of an anti-glare material and the car also comes with an electronically operated sunblind.

Expect the new 911 Targa to be displayed at the Paris Motor Show, with sales in Europe starting immediately after for a modest premium over the new 911 Carrera 4 models.

LUX5 Luxury Car

LUX5 is an event that focuses on luxury. Whether it's a $1,900,000 Bugatti Veyron (yes, that many zeros), a $2.1 million Liberty Coach tour bus or just your "average" Lamborghini, there is something here for the discriminating adult to see and, in some cases, buy.

This was the second LUX5 event for 2008 and it was at the famous Navy Pier in Chicago, IL. The night before, the pre-party was held at NV Penthouse Lounge (www.nvpenthouselounge.com) which attracted quite a crowd and a handful of local celebs.

At the show there were lounges with free samples of Ciroc, Johnny Walker Gold Label, Blue Label and Jose Quervo Platino, all are high-end alcoholic beverages that are targeted at the VIP client. There were also several fashion shows throughout the event that gave all who attended a look at some of the latest fashions from various designers.




Unfortunately, the Navy Pier wouldn't allow the yachts and airplanes into the expo hall, so they were missing from this particular installment of LUX5. Booo to the Navy Pier.....
